Discover the ancient and mystical land of Peru on this 10-day yogic journey climaxing with a visit to the impressive Inca ruins of Machu Picchu, one of the most extraordinary archaeological wonders in the world.
This shamanic journey and vision quest begins in the culturally rich city of Cusco where we meet and acclimate to the high altitude while staying at the charming Encantada Hotel, before heading to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. We cross the valley for the day to discover the Pisaq ruins and Sunday Market and then continue on to settle for 4 nights at the stunning Melissa Wasi Retreat Center nestled between the peaks. There we embark on a ceremony and vision quest with a local shaman. The San Pedro/ Washuma Ceremony is optional and there will be a juice/ fruit fast and detox alternative for those wanting to participate through different means. We then travel onward to Ollantaytambo and Aguas Calientes, our base from where we tour Machu Picchu.
After many days of glorious hiking and inspiring yoga and meditation classes we rejuvenate in this beautiful region filled with natural hot springs and beautiful wildlife. We end our travels back in Cusco walking through the cobblestone streets, taking in the fusion of the ancient and modern cultures and music of Peru and celebrating the voyage. With the altitude in many places reaching above 9,000 feet and the walking and hiking required to explore the ruins of the area it is required that those who join this trip are in good health and physical condition.
Accommodations and Food
Throughout the journey we will stay in moderately priced and comfortable guesthouses and hotels. You may select either shared accommodation or private singles. The staple food in Peru is fresh fruit, quinoa, potato, meat and vegetables. All of our meals will be Vegetarian and based around the abundant plant life, vegetables and fruit from the area. Warning: local dishes prepared by our personal chef Giancarlo will cause you to forget about every worry you have in the world and daily nourishing custom formulated herbal tea blends made by April Ramee may spark high levels of energy and vitality. Specific dietary restrictions will be accommodated.
Daily Yoga Practice
Every day a minimum 1.5 – 2 hour yoga session will be led by HawaH during our time in the Sacred Valley. On many days we will have 2 classes a day, many of which will be outdoors at breathtaking archaeological sites. The style of yoga is influenced mainly from HawaH’s vast training in Sivananda, Jivamukti, Iyengar and Vinyasa traditions. The Sacred Valley is an ideal setting to reflect openly and to explore on a deeper level one’s yoga practice and life’s purpose.
HawaH is an author, educator, yoga teacher, adventurer and non-profit leader. He has traveled to over 30 countries in the past 12 years—scaling from Base Camp, Mt. Everest to the remote tombs of Timbuktu in Mali, West Africa. He has authored 4 books, produced 3 documentary films, and 2 musical CDs. HawaH will guide you through the yoga sessions, vision questing, and ultimately keep you happy, healthy, thriving and safe.
Giancarlo is a native of Peru. He grew up working closely with his mother in her restaurant, developing a love of Peruvian cuisine that would take him to culinary school. As a chef, Giancarlo has traveled all over Peru and Latin America teaching the traditional and contemporary cuisine of his homeland. He also lived in Cusco where he fell in love with the Andes and experienced the profound spirituality of the Sacred Valley including shamanic healing. Giancarlo has a great passion for drumming and wildlife, and looks forward to sharing his home and culture with you.

Travel to Peru
The Retreat begins in Cusco (May 16) and ends in Cusco (May 25) after breakfast. Please plan on the day prior to the retreat start date as a potential travel day between your home and Peru when coordinating your trip.
Peru is a popular travel destination and we advise booking early for international and domestic flights. Book your flight to Cuzco, Peru (airport code: CUZ). Allow at least 2-3 hours in between your international and domestic flights in case of delays.
Flight time from Lima to Cusco is one hour. It is recommended to book these domestic flights in the morning as weather is typically better and there is less chance of flight delay or cancellation.
LAN Airlines, TACA Airlines and Copa Air have international flights from the US/Canada to Lima with connections to Cusco. Multiple US carriers fly into Lima. Check on Kayak.com or other search engine sites for routing and fare options and directly on airline websites. A valid passport is required for all foreign visitors to Peru. An entry visa is not required for American or Canadian nationals. Please inquire with the nearest Peruvian consulate for entry requirements for other nationalities.
May is the end of the wet season if Peru. In the Peruvian highlands it is typically sunny with blue skies, chances of a passing rainstorm and temperatures are in the low 70sF during the day to high 30sF in the evenings. It is best to prepare for all weather conditions including rain, cold mountain conditions and warm days.
The retreat is limited to 16 people to maintain general comfort for traveling together and to allow us to focus on personalized attention and deepening our practice. We encourage booking early for this retreat!
This retreat is being sponsored by One Common Unity and 25% of all proceeds will be donated to their youth development programming.
