John Taylor coordinates programming efforts in the National office of Initiatives of Change located in Richmond, Virginia. Initiatives of Change is an eighty-year-old peacemaking organization that is active in 47 countries.
John was raised in a family that has had multi-generational commitment to community service and social justice. John majored in History at the College of Wooster, where he gained an understanding and appreciation of how the legacies of the past continue to affect the present. This understanding helped to fuel his activism in these years where he led a successful campaign that resulted in his college’s divestment in funds that supported the South African apartheid system.
John’s work has primarily been in the non-profit sector where he served for many years at the National office of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and as a Program Officer for the Bonner Foundation. John has also been a social entrepreneur who initiated urban farming programs in Newark, New Jersey.
