The Movement was a DC cultural arts group that produced The Movement Sessions, a progressive live jazz/hip-hop/spoken word “open-mic” held at Bar Nun on DC’s historic U Street. The Movement served as a haven for the arts, providing a reliable outlet and supportive environment for recreational and professional poets, singers, and emcees of all ages. The Movement Show delivered non-censored artistic expression and revolutionary energy, and is frequented by local, national and international artists, activists, and word-smiths. In partnership with One Common Unity, and supported by the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation (MAAF), The Movement produced the Womb Experience beginning in 2003, featuring emerging local female recording artists. 2006 marked the third successful year of production of Womb Experience. The Movement’s goals were to highlight and develop artistic talent, “edutain” the community, and elevate consciousness through the arts. It is arts education in its purest form.
